Pasion>ie hosts its first awards ceremony

The “Pasion>ie, passion for innovation and entrepreneurship” Forum, in which Ferrovial is a partner, has held its first awards ceremony in the auditorium of the Madrid City Council Department of Economics, attended by more than one hundred entrepreneurs, businesses, investors, academics and members of the government.

Ferrovial is a member of this forum, an initiative launched by Accenture Spain and the IE Business School to connect innovators with businesses. Ferrovial partners in the imitative along with companies such as BBVA, Repsol, Telefónica, and Endesa, and institutions like Madrid City Council. Via the online platform (www.pasionie.com), entrepreneurs can view the company’s basic information and contact it via text-based chat to ask questions.

Ferrovial has provided tutelage to two finalists in the city category: “SER Mobile”, in partnership with the Madrid City Council and BBVA. The project is based on a free online platform that makes it easy to pay the Regulated Parking Service (S.E.R., according to its Spanish acronym) via smartphones. The other project is “Energía limpia”, in partnership with Endesa.

The winning projects were Flockmob, Supertruper and UCI sin Paredes, in the ‘City of the Future’, ‘Distribution of the Future’ and Healthcare of the Future’ categories, respectively. These projects will receive support to get their ideas off the ground, while the remaining nine finalists will be included in the Accenture internal innovation platform.

Over the 6 months of the program, the ten organizations supporting the initiative – The Madrid City Council, BBVA, EADS, Endesa, Ferrovial, Repsol, Servicio Madrileño de Salud, Telefónica, Vodafone and Zurich- contributed technical and specialist know-how to support evaluation of the selected initiatives.

The winning projects

Flockmob” is based on the carpooling concept, providing an application to help support sustainable and efficient urban travel. “Supertruper” is an application for smartphones that makes it easy to create efficient shopping lists and make savings. The “UCI sin paredes” project has created an early detection system for patients in the Intensive Care Ward, which improves service efficiency and significantly cuts costs for the healthcare system.

More than 300 members are registered on the website , which has received over 10,400 visits. Here members of the Pasion>ie community can communicate with each other and visit the Pabellón Pasion>ie Pavilion, where they will find the virtual stands of the partner companies and finalist projects. Pasion>ie was selected as one of “Actualidad Económica’s100 best ideas, a snapshot of innovation in Spain”in 2011.
