T2A continues to gain industry recognition

Category: General / 18 August 2014

Two months into operations and Heathrow Terminal 2 A continues to win industry acclamation.

Two months into operations and Heathrow Terminal 2 A continues to set new records for the construction industry.

Despite reaching construction completion on 19th November 2013 and welcoming its first flight on 4th June 2014, the HETCo JV (Ferrovial Agroman, Laing O’Rourke) responsible for building the project is still collecting awards.

Last month saw HETCo win two out of a possible four categories at the South East Constructing Excellence awards.

HETCo left the ceremony as winners of the ‘Health and Safety’ and ‘Sustainability’ categories, whilst also being listed as finalists for the ‘Project of the Year’ and ‘Integrative and Collaborative Working’ awards.

The project was also listed as finalists for the Construction News ‘Sustainable Project of the year’ and ‘Health and Safety’ awards.

Ferrovial Agroman UK and Ireland Managing Director Mario Mostoles said:
“It is very humbling experience to be recognised by our clients and industry peers in winning these awards. To be shortlisted among so many other well-known international competitors is a great achievement in itself. We are very proud to continue to add to our great record in the UK.”

In winning the Constructing Excellence awards, HETCo now qualify for the national awards in November where the JV will attempt to retain the health and safety award it won in 2013.

Ferrovial Agroman UK Airports Director and HETCo Project Director Pablo Riesco said:
“Heathrow is a part of the fabric of this country and we wanted to deliver a world class project that would not only preserve this history, but contribute to its legacy. From our health and safety record to our commitment to sustainability, this project has set the benchmark for all future projects at the airport to follow.”

The project is also the first airport terminal in the world to undertake the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) and achieve an ‘Excellent’ rating, recognising its modern sustainable design.
